A missed chance?

"As I was running in the park, on my daily training, I saw this delightful scene that almost made me stop.
There was this couple that was sitting on a bench, and at first glance they seemed like they were arguing, but as I went nearer, they were actually reciting something or playing someone from a play or a script.
The girl was sitting on the bench with her chin placed on her outwards-facing hands and her knees were bent and supporting the hands, while the man was moving in circles trying to overact as much as possible, probably because that's how he thought was best.
She was hardly impressed and trying not to laugh because of his forcefulness way of acting, and said something -which I didn't understand- that startled him, and actually made him act more natural.
That was quite a feat, and made me ponder some things, but as I passed them, I looked over my shoulder and saw that the roles were reversed.
Right now, I'm wondering if I did the right thing by not stopping or if I should've stopped and asked them about their gig -since I'm an actor as well- and if they want new blood; well, whatever, I did a PR on my training anyway, surely a chance like that will come again."

Fairy tale problems

The father went up to the children's room to read them a bedtime story. He opened the door and their eyes were instantly on him.
- Okay kids, today I'm gonna do a different tale, ya ready?
All three of them said "Yes" in unison.

"In a forgotten land, where only foul people lived, there was this bright light of a girl. She was a teenager and had had a hard life up until then. She lived at a boarding house all her life, and because her soul was so forgiving, everybody teased her and constantly betrayed her trust. Even though it was hard, she found a route somewhere that lead to the woods where she would relax and feel good for a change. That all changed one morning.
While she was going there, she found a note pinned to a tree. It was addressed to her, and asked her to be here tonight. Although it was intriguing and there were many questions as to why it was addressed to her, she was gullible enough to go.
Nighttime came and she arrived, but nobody else was present. The girl wandered around and started looking at the starry sky when one of the stars moved. It moved so much that it flew next to her, having the dimension of a rose.
She fearlessly approached it and touched it. The rose-shaped star transformed into a tuxedo wearing man. He and his suit sparkled like nothing she has ever seen before. The small man spoke to her and offered a once-in-a-lifetime deal. All she had to do was to wear the dress and shoes that were behind her favorite tree, to the ball tomorrow night. If she impressed them and brought everything back, her life would change, but if she failed to do any of the two, her life would continue to be miserable. The girl accepted the challenge.
The ball time came and all the snobs were there, enjoying their sniveling and bickering, portraying them like jokes. However, they stopped once she walked in. Her fiery red dress and her red shoes caught everyone's attention, but that lasted for a short time because they began gossiping and wandering who she was and who invited her.
The loudmouth cocky owner of the castle where ball was held came to invite her to dance. She accepted. He tried to talk drivel to her, but her responses were mystifying to him. Once the music stopped, she departed from the owner and around the room, looking at the buffet table and greeting the people around her. Some people gave a liking to her, while others were still with their noses up-high.
Time passed and she danced, but grew tired and wanted to leave. As she was walking up the stairs towards the door, a girl twice her size wanted to have some fun and rammed her. Our girl fell down the stairs and the shoes slipped off her feet, but the dress was only dirtied. She began crying and ran out of the room, while the fat girl laughed along with other people, but others felt pity for her.
Even though crying and ashamed, her destination was the tree, to return the dress and explain to the small man what had happened.
Upon arrival, he told her to say nothing because he knew all about it. He promised her things would change and let her be.
Meanwhile, at the party, the fat girl was outside with the shoes, furiously wanting to try them on, but failing to grasp her large feet inside. The man appeared out of nowhere and clapped once. The fat girl heard it and looked toward that direction, only, something happened to her. The power of the shoes turned her into stone. Other people who were watching this came and tried to throw the shoes away, only to be turned to stone as well. Somehow, that clap attracted all the bad people from the ball and from the boarding house and made them statues.
The girl woke up the next day, in her regular clothes, leaning on a tree. She decided to go home and eat something but the place was empty. She searched every room and saw that the pans were being heated, that beds were being made, yet nobody was there.
The castle was her next destination. On the way there, she saw statues and some looked familiar, but she thought it was her imagination that they resembles known people.
Arriving at the place, there were more statues, and among them were the shoes. She picked them up and noticed how dirty they became. A small fountain was near and she went there to wash them.
Suddenly, the small man appeared. He told her that all the people in the land had been turned to stone. Her reply was that it meant she was even lonelier now that everyone was gone. She could take those bad jokes, but at least she people with whom to talk to. Now that she was alone, she had nothing to do. The man thought that she wanted this and hoped that she would be happy, but seeing that she wasn't, he clapped his hands once and the girl became a statue. The end."

- Well, kids, did ya like it?
They were all looking at him with wide eyes.
- Daddy, said one of them, that was the most stupid story I ever heard. Now I can't go to sleep. Go away.
All three of them were pouting and the father had to leave, much to his dismay. As he closed the door, he thought "Maybe I should clap once and make them go away."

Hidden heaven

A motel. A motel in the middle of nowhere. Jack hoped to find one soon.
It was early in the morning and he was coming from a funeral. Nobody of importance to him, but he went as a favor to the brother of the deceased. Jack was a very good friend of the brother, but the few times he met the one that passed, he disliked him, heck, he even punched him.
Although, now, he wanted to find a motel, he kept thinking about that joke that was said about him. Not normally eavesdropping on people, but he couldn't help but hear when several people named him as one of the guilty people involved in this death.
Jack, who had a glass in his hand, squashed it and cut several parts of his hand, yet he didn't flinch, instead, he was fuming. He turned around and confronted the guy, with his fist in the air, only, the guy was going in retreat and said it was a bad joke on his part. Also, offered his apologies, but received a punch in the gut. Jack stormed out of there and rode off in his car.
He didn't know where to go, so he went in another direction than the one he came in, hoping to find something that would ease his anger. Maybe a motel, maybe a diner.
Going across the road, his mind wandered off to nothingness. His eyes were blurry, as if he had cried, but they were swollen from lack of sleep, and the haziness appeared.
If not for a scream, he would have missed the motel completely. It awakened him from his wide-eyed slumber.

Jack pulled the brake in the middle of nowhere, on a dusty road where nothing could survive, except a motel. There was a car parked in front of the motel. He got out of his and went there with haste, but looked for a rock or something for support. He found a piece of rotten wood which was better than nothing.
The place seemed run down, but he didn't care, it felt perfect for him, except for that noise. He could still hear something from the floor window.
Although an action man, he didn't want to attract outside attention and jump through the window, so he went through the door, making sure there was no sound from his steps.
After he entered the place through the door, he saw that nobody was a the front desk, therefore, he went near the room. Noises were still heard.
Jack kicked the door down. The two people inside were startled. They invited him to join them but he refused, and, looking slightly embarrassed, he excused himself. On his way out, he tried putting the door back, but it wouldn't stay, so he let it be while those two continued for a little while.
Jack, who was now sitting in a chair in the hall, couldn't believe what happened. At least this was a good joke. That made him smile and brought a laugh as well. It was the first laugh in a while. Still laughing, the woman came from the room and looked surprised to find him like that.
- What's so funny, honey?
- Oh, it's just... weird stuff... never mind. I'm sorry about before, I heard a scream and thought an assault...
- Oh, that... The woman smiled. It's okay, but now we have to fix the door.
- I'll fix it for you if you have the tools.
- Sure we have them. But before that, what're you doing in a place like this?
- A rough morning. I wanted to find something like though. Can I ask you something?
- Sure.
- Do you have anything to eat?
- Hell yeah we do. French fries, burgers, pizza, apple pies, almost everything.
- Oh, that's great. I'll have a hamburger and some pie.
- Great. They'll be ready in about 20 minutes or so.
- Cool. In the meantime, I'll fix that door.
He went in the door direction while she went to the dining hall. There, Jack saw the man of the house. He apologized yet again and offered to fix the door. The man said it was nice of him to do it. Jack asked for tools, but the man said he'd bring them.
Arrived a couple of minutes later with the tools, Jack was ready for work.
He fixed it in a rather good time, considering the damages done to it, but the hinges weren't that broken.
After the job was done, he went into the dining hall to eat.
The food looked like it had popped out of the '50 commercials. It was chic, good-looking, tasty, and, most importantly, it wanted to be eaten.
Jack enjoyed the food so much that he ordered fourths, and, eventually, he would come here whenever he had the time, only to enjoy these fabulous meals.

Concentration

He failed to hit the baseball with his bat, and that made his team lose the match.
After that, in the locker room, the coach was talking to the guy who missed the shot.
The discussion didn't last long, but he give him an ultimatum, and he missed again and cost the team the match, he was out.

Later that night, he was contemplating what the coach had told him.
"I'll give you one more chance to prove yourself or you're out of the team, got that?"
It really affected him, and it would affect him even more if he was sacked because there would be no money and no honey.

A week later, the game was underway, and all they needed was for him to hit the ball and make a run for it at the bases.
"Look, I saw that you've been motivated this night, that you're raring to go to prove yourself. Go for it." said the coach and slapped him easily across the right cheek.
He picked a bat, the ninth bat from the storage space, thinking that it would bring him luck, because the number nine was his favorite number.

There he was, walking to the pitch, shaking and breathing fast, but once he got in the center and positioned himself, everything changed. He became focused and started breathing very slowly. All he could see was the ball.
And it was thrown, but he let it go without trying to strike, preparing himself mentally.
Second was was thrown and he threw the bat, only to miss it.
"It's okay, I've still got one more." he said to himself.
The final ball was thrown, and you could hear the sound, the sound of wood hitting thin air and the boos that came after that final miss.

Shyness

"All alone in this ugly world." Alice said to herself.
"I've never felt joy, only sorrow. I think my moments of happiness occurred when I snuck around the corner and immersed myself in my own world, like I am now. I don't care what all the others think. Just because I have a sad face doesn't mean I am sad, it's my mimic."
But Alice was upset because she had been abandoned by her parents and been brought up in an orphanage. She always felt empty because of that and hated everyone, mostly herself.

One day, a couple to the orphanage and wanted a young daughter. They looked around and saw Alice, a cute 6-7 year old girl, with red hair, something they always wanted. It was love at first sight, for them, at least.
After the files had been signed, she left with the couple.

The first week was incredibly difficult for all three. The couple did everything they could to please the girl, but it felt awkward. She didn't want to eat, she didn't want to do anything. She even did her old routine of sneaking around a corner and talking to herself, of course, without them noticing.
On the ninth day she saw something that changed their relationship.
Although she was aware of writing, Alice never tried it. Mainly because the people at the orphanage never bought her anything.
That notebook and pen made her feel alive, they made her feel happiness, for the first time.

An accident

As Jennifer was breaking a glass by accident, her father had had enough.
"That's the last straw." he said.
He was furious because of the way she acted, all arrogant and breaking things or tearing them up. However, this time it was an accident. Somebody left the glass on the edge of the table and she lowered herself to pick something up, but when she got up, she touched the table and the glass fell.

The father decided to ignore her and give her no allowance. Instead, he used that money to buy things to replace the ones she broke or tear.
Days, weeks, even months have passed and he still hadn't spoken to her, even though she tried very hard to be sympathetic, cooking for him was one thing. But he wouldn't eat the food and make something else himself.

Although she was frustrated by this outcome, she had to live with it knowing it was her fault for the situation.
However, one fateful morning, while she was walking around in the kitchen and he was cooking for himself, he somehow slipped and fell on the floor. He had a pan filled with hot oil in his hand and, as it was about to splash onto him, she caught the handle and made sure there wasn't any drops spilled.
The father was in shock, but he got up and hugged her.
"I'm sorry." he whispered in her ear.
Tears started to come down from her eyes. Tears of joy knowing things were looking up instead of down, for the first time since that glass breaking.

Dancing through the leaves

"Autumn, good old Autumn. My favorite season has commenced." said Alison.
She had had a difficult couple of months and wanted to kick-start her life again, but didn't know how. Or failed to do so.
She tried different things like knitting or doing something different every night, she even adopted a new way of life, but it didn't help.
Poor old Alison, that's what certain people that knew her said. From a charming and cheery person, she became apathetic.
Walking around with brown hair, she dyed it in a more reddish tone, which made stand out in public.

Despite the knowledge that she was wanted by certain, Alison didn't feel at all needed, it was more the opposite.
But there she was, in her room, looking out the window as the first brown leaves started to touch the ground, making for a splendid sight.
As she was living near the woods, she decided to go out for a stroll.

Walking through the woods, she felt this frenzy, this ecstasy that overwhelmed her. She began hearing a beautiful melody, one that made her dance.
Alison, as a introverted person who never danced, began doing it now, in the middle of the woods, hearing something that was only in her head. And it made her feel like she never felt before.

After this encounter, her life changed. Not overnight and not feeling the effects consciously. Alison began doing things that she loved and didn't know about, without it seeming odd.

A clock for life

Tick, tock, tick, tock, made the clock located in the park.
Time was running out for him, but why only for him and not for anybody else?
He was in a space pause, meaning he could move while the rest were frozen in motion.
Inventing this pill in his lab, he swallowed it and hoped to conquer mankind, but he didn't think that if he failed to touch a big clock, he will die and be erased from existence.
Right now, he was running, for his life, towards that clock in the park, because that was the nearest big clock.
Seconds remained, and as he was sprinting, he kept hearing a voice saying to him "You have less than five seconds... four... three... two... hahahaha... " the voice laughed because he slipped in a puddle, thus preventing him to live any longer.

Mornin' gag

One early morning, while Jan was still sleeping, I snuck outside the room and came back after five minutes. The reason? I wanted to wake her up by tickling her toe with a leaf.
At first, she just scratched her feet, but after trying some more, she woke up and was all sweaty.

"Hey, I had this nightmare. I dreamt I was invaded by rats and they were crawling all over my legs."
"One crazy dream, babe."
"What are you doing over there?"
"Umm... nothing." I said with a smile on my face.

Sensing something weird going on, she got up and came near me. I, on the other hand, hid the leaf inside my shorts.
She made me get up and I showed her that I had nothing on me.
I left the room and she jumped back in bed.

The next morning I felt something scratching my face. At first I thought it was the cat, but then I opened my eyes and screamed. It was the leaf, but she cut it in certain ways to make it look scary.

"You dropped it yesterday. The joke's on you now."
"Yes, I suppose it is."

Needless to say, I stopped doing things like that to Jan, for a while at least.

A dreamy dialogue

"Let's do something."
"Like... ?"
"Like bungee-jumping, go-karting, hang-gliding, let's make prank calls, let's do some acting or record a video, let's play some games or mosh pit to horrible music, let's do something interesting."
"Are you that bored?"
"Yeah."
"Well, you'll stay like that since we're broke, have no games, no phones, or camers, heck, we don't even have a home and you know it, now stop sniffing glue all by yourself and give me some."

The apartment

Jackie knew that the front door had been left open, but he knew nothing of what was inside.

The apartment had been done over by the repairmen and the whole lot, all it needed now was his seal of approval.

Yet, when he entered, he saw decrepitness all over, which begged him to think about the quality of work, or lack thereof.

It smelled horribly, the pipes were leaking, the carpets were stained, the walls were sullied and he even saw several roaches roaming around.

The whole thing stank of phoniness and lack of hard work, but there was a noise coming from the kitchen, which made him go there, thinking it was a rat or something similar.

When he entered, the noise was being made by the refrigerator, so he opened it, only to discover something that... captured people.

The child

In a quiet room stood a grey haired child, whose only ambition was to become the most successful man that ever lived.
Easier said than done.
He only knew point A to point Z, but the rest was a blur.
He thought about what to do, about the success that he wanted, in which domain, he even tried writing his skills on paper, but he couldn't find none.
Therefore, what was a boy to do when he was so barren and lacked anything that made other people great?
He decided to leave the room, that was point B, and several years later, point Z came to fruition.

Saturday 28 July 2012

A stupid gag

"Janice, you have to listen to me."
"Why?"
"Because if you don't, you won't get the 20 quid that you wanted."
She pouted and left the room.
Her father was being a bit harsh on her, but it made her think. She wanted that money no matter what, so she left the house via the window in her bedroom.
During those four hours she had been away, her father didn't know a thing, but when she came back in the living room, she was all smiles.
"What are ye laughing at?"
"It's a... it's a... "
And the door bell rang.

The father opened the door and two blokes were there.
"Oi, mate, cough up or we'll grass ya."
"I beg your pardon?"
"You'll be beggin' me fist if ye don't give me the money in yer house, mate."
"Who are you?"
"We be people that be wantin' yer money, now give it here or we'll smash ya."
Father turned around and saw her laughing.
"Oh, daddy, I'm sorry, it was just a plain old gag, I didn't think they'd actually do it."
"This is your idea of a joke? And for a measly 20 quid?"
The parent threw his arms in the air, moved to the table, picked up the money and gave it to her.
"Now go, and don't come back, ever. And I mean it."

She took it and left. She never set foot in that house again. Never spoke to her parent, but went on to become a married woman in another town, and a successful one at that.

The tie

Mark wore a violet tie today. There was no particular reason for wearing that tie, other than felling in love with it.
A couple of months prior, he hated that color. Mainly because he felt it was a girls color. That was until he saw this tie and wanted to have. He went into the store and tried it on. It looked "smashing" on him, as one of the women working there told him.
Mark decided to leave it on and leave the shop. Once outside, he looked at himself in the windows and saw dark clouds forming. When he turned around to continue walking, the clouds were no more, but he didn't notice.

While he was crossing the street, a drunk driver happened to stroll around the road and dent several cars. However, when he saw this guy with a violet tie walking so peaceful on the zebra, he decided to ram him. Going overboard with the speed, the car stopped at a mere inch away from Mark. His engine broke down.
The lad looked with shock at the car that nearly flattened him, not knowing what to make of it.
He barely made it across, and checked himself in a rear view mirror, to see how he looked. Above his head was a shiny, golden, circular object. It was a halo. He blinked and it was gone.
Mark couldn't believe what he saw, and since that day, he wore the tie on special occasions, bringing him luck in the process.

Peach

A peach was about to be eaten.
It was nice, juicy and hairless.
Of course, that would make it a nectarine, but it wasn't, just a special type.
A taste of that fruit and you'd feel what gods felt when they ate ambrosia.
Nothing so sweet and so pure as a peach.
Nothing so nice you wouldn't want to eat twice.

Wednesday 18 July 2012

The book

The book was full of quotes and borrowed phrases, but not a single word was written.

Every word that you saw in the book had appeared like magic, through unknown methods.

Only one copy was known of this book and it was discovered in the library by mistake, when a young pupil was searching for unorthodox books about the world.

The librarian had no recollection of the book, but he loaned to the lad.

After reading the book, the boy was on cloud nine because of what his eyes saw.

Thanks to that book, he became a scholar and, soon enough, the greatest prophet the world had ever known, except that it was all in his head, because the book had ceased to exist and his mind left him soon after that.

The run

During a stormy morning, Johnny was running. Not from anyone, but for his health as he was a professional runner. He ran every morning, the only exceptions were when he happened to not be at home for the night.
In this particular run, he felt a sudden rush which spurred his run. However, there was a dog prowling around; a vicious dog.
As he ran on the street, stepping on small ponds, the dog sniffed him and started running towards him.
Jumping over a small fence, the dog nearly bit his hand, but touched his shirt instead.
The ferocious one stopped with his mission accomplished.
Johnny ran home as fast as he could, took a shower and had a little shiver.
He vowed to take revenge on the mutt, even though he had nothing around the house.

The next morning, he ran the same course. Expecting the dog, with a solution in store.
When he showed, fireworks started to blow.
He had seven in his hands and pressed one each time to scare the dog away. He managed to do just that, leaving a pile of trash behind.
Arriving home and entering the bathroom, said to himself. "Now that's one dog that won't give me any mess."

Wednesday 4 January 2012

Baseball

It was a dark day. The clouds were everywhere and nobody seemed to mind the coming rain.

Yule, a shy kid from the neighborhood was having a blast actually, because, usually, when it rained, most people went inside, except for him and a couple of other shy ones.

One of the reasons he was so timid was because of his name.
He couldn't quite understand why his parents gave him that odd calling card.

His only friends were the other shy ones and they had a great time, on occasion.
However, today will not be one of those times.

Just as Yule was going to get out of the house, somebody screamed at him to watch out. His reflexes weren't so quick, therefore, he got hit in face with a baseball, knocking a couple of teeth out.

Yule fell to the ground and started crying. The person that threw the ball started laughing hard, while the one that shouted ran away, half laughing, half embarrassed.
Eventually, the one that threw hid somewhere, whilst looking like a tomato.

Yule, who had blood on his chin, crawled inside the house.
Seeing as he was all alone and with a terrible pain, he wondered what to do.
Thinking of calling some of his friends for help, reconsidered since he could barely talk. His parents were at work.

First thing he did what to go to the bathroom and wash his face.
After that, he picked up a glass and put some aspirin in it.
With his teeth in his hand, he put them under his pillow and went to sleep, despite the fact that it was 5 pm.

He woke up the next day to find that other teeth started growing in those places and that under his pillow was a dollar.

Tuesday 3 January 2012

It doesn't matter how you look

- I can't go out looking like this. said Claire.
- Why not? asked John.
- Don't you know how my face, my legs, my body is, it's like I'm one of those little spiral things or whatever you call them, where the upper and lower portion is big and the middle in absent.
- But yours isn't.
- Yeah, but it's very small.
- Hey, would you rather not fit through the door?
- Well, no.
- Then, shut up and come outside already.
- Okay, but if somebody laughs, I'll... I'll...
- Nobody will laugh, now come on.
- Fine. "Takes three steps from behind the changing cabin"
- My, my, you do look stunning. What do you guys think?
- Yeah, she does. said Michael.
- Honey, if I wouldn't know you, I'd marry you in a jiffy. pointed out Clive.
- Oh, shut up Clive, you're making me blush.
- Now can we go outside, Claire? asked John.
- Okay.

As the four of them were on the streets, somebody started laughing, then people stared with their fingers pointed at her.
Claire was feeling under the weather because of this, but the guys made her feel at ease. However, somebody came near them and yelled at her "You fat cow".
This made her cry and she ran back home, despite what the guys were trying to do.

- See, that's why I didn't want to go outside, because I'm hideous.
- Shhh, honey, people don't know what true fashion is. Just because we're different doesn't mean we can't wear clothes. said Clive.
- I'll fix you up some ice cream to get back to your senses for tonight when we'll go and party in the club. said Michael.
- Okay, those people understand us.

A new year

Right, now that the new year has passed, I can get back on track with my writing.
Yesterday I arrived pretty late but I still managed to write 750 words, which made my first chapter of my first novel, although it's unsatisfactory, but it's a good start, and one that will keep me writing for the whole month, at least 750 words a day, until I reach my 20k goal for this novel.

I enjoyed the party that happened during these two days, but I hope I can enjoy this month more.
It will be pretty hectic, but that's what I like.
